Inspired by a day observing birds of prey in flight, this particular knife captures the majestic beauty of two feathered friends: the red kite and the lanner falcon. Each bird is intricately detailed on white reindeer horn, with subtle coloring that highlights their unique plumage. This design showcases their grace and power while also bringing a touch of the wild into your hands.

Inspired by the beauty of the animal kingdom, I ventured into capturing the essence of humankind through scrimshaw. This new design marks a significant evolution, featuring a meticulously crafted knife that showcases scrimshaw based on a photograph of two Native Americans. The knife blade is designed with an integrated finger stop, ensuring both functionality and elegance. The warm background for the scrimshaw is created from a piece of discolored reindeer horn, adding a touch of natural warmth and depth to the design. Framing the overall design is a sliver of sterling silver with fine file work, complemented by an end cap that ties the look together.

Knife number 441 – The Cousins – illustrates the harmony of nature. The silver insert, inspired by the cool waters of the north, creates a striking contrast against the rich dark ebony and the creamy light mammoth tusk. This simple blend of materials mirrors the serene yet powerful essence of the streams of Jutland where salmon and trout thrive. The intricately crafted scrimshaw showcases the dynamic energy of a jumping salmon on one side and an equally spirited sea trout on the other. These designs are enhanced by subtle blue and red accents, highlighting the distinct features of each fish. The result is a stunning visual representation that captures the essence of these magnificent creatures in their natural habitat.

The Big Rose folder is the epitome of bold craftsmanship; a gentleman’s pocket knife that transcends the ordinary. Adorned with intricate file work, dual-colored engravings, and a fusion of blade and front bolster, this masterpiece exudes sophistication.

Inspired by the ancient motifs of the Samic culture, I have infused three captivating hues into the intricate engravings, seamlessly blending geometric precision with organic elegance. Each line tells a story of craftsmanship and attention to detail.

Look closer and you’ll discover the hidden treasures of the meticulous file work patterns adorning the back spring and liners. Every curve, every line, intricately intertwined to echo the rhythm of tradition while embracing the essence of contemporary aesthetics.

Turkish walnut has an appealing color and is suitable for the checkered design that provides the basis for the excellent grip. Turkish walnut is very often used as the wooden part of a hunting gun where you have the same need for a reliable grip. The scrimshaw area consists of two small pieces of reindeer horn with just enough space for two small scorpions as dangerous as the knife is sharp. To protect the knife blade I made a new type of sheath with a better fit around the knife itself. As sheath decoration I added a delicate piece of lizard skin.

For a long time I had avoided trying my hand at making scrimshaw in color. But curiosity won me over: it was going to be now or never. The drawings were made. The proper materials found. And off I went.

For materials I chose white reindeer horn and placed it dead center while both ends were bordered by grey reindeer horn for file work. Masur birch was dyed red-brown on both sides of the reindeer horn. A piece of white reindeer horn finished off the top of the knife. The sheath was made from semi-tanned leather, stamped and dyed in a brownish color.

Narrowing down which animal to scrimshaw was tough, but the tiger and the wild boar made a great pair. The tiger faces its audience and the wild boar is in profile view. The result is a perfect set of tools for the hunt. And definitely not my last foray into scrimshaw in color.

For decoration I composed a Samic-inspired engraving consisting of repeated squares, triangles and fine lines. The unique Damascus steel knife blade has a beautiful rose pattern that complements the rare materials. As the components came together, the final knife revealed itself to be simple, functional and full of high-quality artistry.

This elegant folding knife was created to be part of a series of slim designs totaling three knives with similar looks but distinctly different handles. The compact size makes it perfect for a variety of purposes ranging from picnics to garden work to hunting expeditions.

The knife handle is the unique-looking Sambar deer antler; it’s both rustic and modern, and almost resembles marble. The knife blade is a simple stainless Damascus steel with a soft rose pattern. The unique Damascus steel knife blade has a beautiful rose pattern that complements the rare materials. The only decoration is the file work on the liners. All put together, the knife is simple, functional and full of high-quality artistry.
