I started my knife making career in 1995 joining Vendsyssel Knife Makers Guild.
A few years earlier I read an article in a fishing magazine about making your own fishing knife. I made two knives with wood handles and sheaths, very different from the styles I make today.
Now most of my time is spent on knife making and my former bamboo fly rod (split cane) production is on hold for the time being. The same goes for the salmon and trout fly tying activities.
Fishing is not quite on hold. I still visit the river Gaula in Norway every year for salmon fishing. The small trout streams in my home district has been visited now and then to catch a brown trout or a sea trout.
Early on I was warned by other experienced knife makers that this new hobby would take up all my free time. And it certainly is a time consuming hobby. Each knife takes anywhere from 15 to 100 hours to make, and even longer for special samic knives. It all depends on the design and materials used. But the result is always worth the time.
